STUDY OF MAHARAJA MADHAVRAO SCINDIA I
His Highness Maharaja Madhavrao Scindia I was known as the ‘Father of Modern Gwalior’. He spent a lot of time developing the city and accomplished many feats during his reign. He set up the Gwalior Light Railway, Gwalior Potteries, Gwalior Leather factory, and Gwalior Engineering works. Many building projects were also pioneered by him, such as Victoria College, Jayaji Memorial hospital, and chattris of Sakhya Raje and Jayaji Rao. He was also highly involved in world affairs and gave medical and military support to the Allies during World War I. His study is where he would have undertaken state administration and other duties. The cabinets in this study are full of official documents and ledgers which he would have used in his work. The room also contains his desk and chair, as well as more comfortable seating for informal meetings. The rest of the room is decorated with items that reflect their interests as well as his stately duties. The fire engine and silver train show his interest in engineering. The two Naga costumes in the corners of the room were a gift to His Highness from the king of Nagaland, showing his wide relations with other Indian states.
